Meeting Residents

Updated: Jan 21, 2019

The flower was a gift from a lovely little girl while I was walking in her neighborhood. It melted my heart a bit.

I'm listening

July 16-22, 2018

It's been so much fun getting around Red Wing Ward 3 to meet with individuals and families to hear what's important to our community.

Topping the list are concerns about

  • Community safety

  • Housing, or lack of

  • Construction around town

  • Growing the economy

  • Taxes

  • Investing in Red Wing

A popular one is construction around town. While it's clear no one likes their route disrupted, many individuals the see the construction as necessary upgrades that were put off during the recession as Red Wing slowed down their spending to stay within the budget. Some were concerned about the impact of multiple years of construction on tourism. While I can understand that concern, I know these repairs and maintenance make us a more welcoming and safer community into the future. I think when the dust settles we'll have a beautiful and safe community for residents and guests to walk downtown, Old West Main, and throughout Red Wing.

Others are thankful to see Public Works tackling street safety. I spoke with Rick Moskwa late last week and was encouraged to hear how he's been tackling the necessary projects around town. I liked hearing his long term plan for sidewalk repairs and continuity-trying to connect sidewalk segments that are missing. I also liked how much value he put into the new bump outs--those new features of a crosswalk that seem to bump out into the street. I spoke to one resident who said those bump outs combined with the new chirping signals has probably saved her life multiple times. She said they have helped her safely navigate around town. She's looking for more improvements in sidewalk continuity.

More Door Knocking: The Bluff
July 5, 2018
I'm hearing a lot about the bluff graffiti. What I like the most about this conversation is how much people love their town. They show it or express it in different ways, but their core is the same. They want it one way or the other because they see the bluff as part of their connection to Red Wing.

Preparing for Door Knocking 2018

July 1, 2018

I'm preparing so you can get to know me, and I'll be around soon in your neighborhood to hear from you. When I stop by please let me know what's on your mind and if I miss you please feel free to email or message me so I can hear from you.
